Essential Travel Vocabulary | Improve Your English Speaking from Anywhere
it is so much fun to travel to actually practice your english and to experience new things but even
if you can't hop on a plane right now you can essentially travel by using a vpn and trick the
internet into thinking that you are somewhere else i was shocked when i lived abroad when i could not
access certain videos that i knew i could watch in the u.s i couldn't listen to certain music that
i listened to in the u.s simply because it wasn't available regionally and i want to show you a tool
that i use when i'm learning a foreign language or for you if you're in your home country and it's
not an english-speaking country and you want to access more information in english if you want to
actually see more programming more tv shows more movies in english see when
i lived in brazil i realized for the first time in my life you may already know this
but when you access the internet from another country you do not get the same results when
you search for the exact same thing you do not see the same programs on netflix you cannot even
access a lot of the same videos because they're restricted by country or websites there's a lot of
censorship and there's also a lot of differences depending on where you are accessing the internet
in the world but there's a way to get around that so i finally figured out that there is a
hack to get around this maybe you know it already do you use what's called a vpn so i started using
nordvpn because it allows me to trick my computer or the internet into thinking that
i am well anywhere i want to be it's also super useful with accessing my bank account when i am
traveling abroad because i can't tell you how many times my bank has locked my account locked me out
of my own account so frustrating because it sees i'm accessing my account from a new country and so
it's a security feature but the thing is you don't want to get shut out of your own information right
so the important thing is to know to use a vpn i use nordvpn and i'm going to tell you why they
have an additional threat protection feature that really makes me feel safe it helps prevent any
kind of malware harmful websites malicious ads infected files and even blocks trackers
even just to protect my own personal information and my activities i like using nordvpn because
it's kind of a creepy world out there and you never know who's watching and what they're going
to do with that information so not to be paranoid but i highly recommend that you try and work vpn
especially because they're giving us a huge discount click the link in the description to
learn more you can try it out risk free because they have a 30-day money-back guarantee now that
i've shared my tips for tricking the internet into thinking that you're anywhere you want to be and
staying safer online let's hand this over to go natural english teacher ryan who's going to share
words that you need to know before you travel so let's go
hi everyone i'm ryan from go natural english and today i'm talking about travel vocabulary
so traveling is one of my five great passions in my life i love working with kids sports
learning new languages meeting new people and traveling and through traveling some
of the best things i've ever had happen have occurred i've been to the great wall of china
i've been to the fos de guasso in brazil i've met amazing people and i've even fallen in love
all while traveling so today i want to share with you some of the most essential words that i use
when i talk about my adventures and my travels so that you can talk about your adventures and your
travels and hey if you like these english tips that help you become fluent fast consider giving
this video a thumbs up and subscribing it helps us know what you like and how we can continue to grow
this awesome go natural community all right let's get after it book a flight you need to book
a flight so we know book is like reading but to book the verb means to reserve
so if you book a flight that means you reserve a flight after you have your flight so i booked
a flight to buenos aires now i need to book accommodation accommodation is a place to sleep
to reserve a place to sleep like a hotel airbnb hostel couchsurfing any one of those things all
accommodation similar to accommodation is to make a reservation so to make a reservation
means to reserve the use of something and it can be anything so to book accommodation is
specifically to a house or a room to sleep but to make a reservation can also mean a room but it can
apply to car rentals or a tour or anything you can go in a hot air balloon and fly around the city
but you need to make a reservation so for example i could say i want to go on the dungeon tour i
need to make a reservation or if i want to stay at the luxor hotel in las vegas i need to call or go
online and make a reservation i've booked a flight i've found my accommodation i made a reservation
for a car rental now it's time to fly the verb that we use to describe this is to take off
so the plane takes off at 7 am and it lands at 5 pm so to take off is the plane leaving
and to land is the plane landing and the verb to land can be anything that's flying
and then comes to the ground i could say the butterfly right there's a butterfly
the butterfly landed on my shoulder my plane takes off at 8 00 am and lands
at 5 pm now you also use these verbs to describe where and where you're going
where you come from and where you're going to so i take off at 7am but i take off from
new york for example if i leave from new york if i leave from berlin i can say i take off from berlin
and then on the other side i say i take off from berlin i land in i land in singapore so i take off
from berlin and i land in singapore you take off from to land in now sometimes you'll be very lucky
that your flight will not stop the flight will go from a to b from berlin to singapore but sometimes
you have to stop somewhere so if i fly from berlin to singapore but i stop in doha for example in
qatar that means that i have a connection in doha so a connection when talking about flights
means a city that your flight stops in before the final destination so if i'm going to singapore
from berlin and i have a connection in doha that means the plane will fly from berlin to doha
and then doha to singapore and you can have even more words to describe this
so this means you have two flights berlin doha doha singapore each flight
is called a leg like a leg like i have an arm and a leg each part of this is called a leg so the
first leg of the trip is from berlin to doha and the second leg is from doha to singapore
another word for a connection is a layover a layover is just simply when you have a few
hours stop in another city so you can say doha i have a connection in doha or i have a layover
in doha if it's a very long layover like many hours this is called a stop over a stop over
and this just means that you will stay in that connection city for many hours usually
more than four hours but before you travel you need a backpack but not any type of backpack
a travel backpack so so this is a normal backpack you can see it's pretty thin it's not
so big i can open it up about halfway put books a computer laptop a tablet and that's about it
not too many things but a travel backpack is much bigger you have room for lots of clothes
for a computer for toiletries for packing cubes for lots of things it's very big and you can put
everything in there clothes your computer bathroom stuff and the most important thing
for a travel backpack is a clam shell or suitcase style opening this means that the backpack opens
like a clam it opens really really big because most backpacks only open halfway but a clam
opens like if you think of a circle 270 degrees so there's only one little side that doesn't
open opens all the way and i have all of this room to put something in and the clamshell opening is
important because it allows you to access things quickly and pack very quickly and the best way to
organize your clothes or your bathroom things is with packing cubes so a packing
cube is simply a little bag to organize your things so in this packing cube i have
my shirts in this packing cube i have my shorts and i have more packing cubes for my shoes
for my socks whatever i need for my dirty clothes packing cube now the last bag you need is for your
toiletries now the last bag you need is for toiletries can you guess what toiletries
are toiletries are the things that you find in the bathroom like a toothbrush maybe mouthwash
toothpaste lotion shampoo these things are all toiletries and it's a smart idea to put them in
a clear bag the security will be very happy when you have them in a clear bag like this
so you have your reservation you booked accommodation you have a travel backpack with
packing cubes toiletries you are ready to go you take off from buenos aires and you land in paris
but now you feel really tired why you're feeling really sleepy this is called jet lag now jet lag
is the feeling of being hired after you travel and this is because you change time zone and your body
is used to a different time zone so sometimes when i travel from europe to asia i get jet lag i land
and even though it's sunny i'm so sleepy our next word is sightsee to sightsee this is a simple verb
that means to visit or to look around so if i just arrived in shanghai in china i could say i really
want to sightsee the downtown or i really want to sightsee around the people's square to sightsee
if i'm traveling with a friend i can ask hey foofy do you want to sightsee around stockholm
tomorrow you can also say to go sightseeing do you want to go sightseeing you want to go look
around and see the things you've been sightseeing you've been observing the city taking it all in so
after you're done sightseeing you see everything you're satisfied you're ready to go to a new city
of course you can book a trip on a bus or make a reservation for a flight or you could
try hitchhiking do you know what hitchhiking is hitchhiking is when you put your thumb up and
you ask people for a ride i've hitchhiked so many times almost 100 times in many countries and i've
always had great experiences i love to hitchhike you have fun conversations you meet really cool
people of course it's not always the funnest way to travel because the weather can be bad or people
will be maybe rude to you but as long as you send good energy to the world the world will
always bring it back to you and i've always had good luck hitchhiking so i was in the
republic of georgia which is below russia and if you've never been there outside of the cities
pigs cows and sheep and other animals they sleep in the streets they sleep on the streets and
the cars must go around them the animals don't move and i hitchhiked there with my friend fufi
and when we got in the car the guy was going so fast going around the animals
so fast and we were really nervous and he spoke no english and he was just driving and laughing
like the joker but he was really nice in the end we didn't talk so much but we made it to
our destination it was wonderful and we continued our journey and hitchhiking was on my bucket list
a bucket list is a list of things that you want to do before you die on my bucket list is visit
antarctica learn 10 languages become a father have a kid's camp where i can teach
sports and english that would be amazing that's definitely on my bucket list so many people
have different things on their bucket list and i'm curious what's on your bucket list what things do
