will provide you with some useful phrases and expressions you can use in your academic writing

task 1 when you want to state similarities and differences in the diagram of course you can

use these phrases in any writing when you want to refer to similarities and differences but

let's go and check them out for academic writing task1

Firstly, let's talk about similarities

Ok, let's see words and phrases about similarities used in examples

The first word is both, you can use the word both when you refer to the similarities between two things

for example,

If you would like to use "both" in the start, in the beginning of a sentence, you can use it this way

And we move on to phrases similarly or likewise, they mean the same thing and you can use them in the

same way. Let's read the example

When you want to say something similar. Of course, commas and stuff like that that I keep saying about

they are not redundant, they are not details, they are very very important things about your punctuation

so please be careful. We use similarly with a comma, likewise with a comma immediately after.

Ok, let's move on. We can also use the phrase in the same way when we state similarities

We want to compare something similar. You can also use it this way

It is the same

Another useful phrase you can use is similar trend let's see the example

So, you can change and use these phrases anyway you like when you refer to similarities

These are just examples in order to help you

Ok, and now let's go and see some useful phrases you can use when you want to refer to differences

Now, for differences these two are very useful phrases, they are used together on the one hand-on the other hand

Let's see an example of how you can use them

Ok, you can also use while to state a difference let's see the example

this is the different part

You can say the same thing with whereas let's see the example

or but in this case

As you can see you can also use but here, but in academic writing we prefer whereas because it is

a little bit more formal. Now,

All these three phrases have the same meaning and also you can use them in the same way, in the same syntactical way

Similarly or Likewise, we can use

And of course the old time favourite, however, let's see the example

And if you prefer to use by contrast after a fullstop you can use it this way

that you can use accordingly, of course these phrases can be used in Academic writing task 2 as well
