hey what's up Stefanie the English coach here from EnglishFullTime.com I have not
made a fast speech video in a long time so that is exactly what we are going to do today
what I'm going to do is I'm just going to give you phrases and words that you might hear in
English okay and the way a native speaker might say it this is really so that you can understand
English more okay so the first phrase is how'd you sleep how did you sleep how did you sleep
okay let's say we're having a slumber party and then you wake up the next morning and I'm like
hey what's up good morning how'd you sleep okay how did you how did you sleep how'd you
sleep how'd you sleep next phrase I didn't even know that I didn't even I didn't even
know that yeah I didn't even know that did you know no I didn't even know that next instead
of saying come here or come here please you can just say hey come here come here come here mhere
mhere there's no here it's mhere next I don't know if you guys realize this but the word of
can often get reduced down to uh okay my sister said the other day something about the side of
the building and I was like oh she didn't say of she said uh the side of the building yeah the side
of the building maybe just totally collapsed I don't know what happened the side of the building
next sometimes actually all the time we say gotcha gotcha which is got you we might use
this if we're on a phone call and someone's explaining something and then we go oh okay
okay gotcha yeah gotcha like I get it and this is I got you which means like I get
it right gotcha I don't ever say got you or I got you I say yeah gotcha gotcha gotcha gotcha
okay next the phrase do you want me to look it up okay I might say this like do you want me to
look it up do you want me to look it up or I might take off the do and say you want me to look it up
or I might take off the you also and say want me to look it up want me to look it up do you want me
me-to look it up look it up or you want me to look it up or want me to look it up
next the phrase that would be nice okay we could contract it and say that'd be nice that'd be nice
okay or you could just say that would be nice that would be nice notice I'm not saying that
I'm saying that would be nice that would be nice that would that would that would no but if I say
it like that it sounds weird right but if I say it all together connected and quickly it sounds
perfectly fine yeah that would be nice do you want to go on a picnic yeah that would be nice
that would be nice okay the next one what time is it what time is it what time is it
what time is it next nice to meet you is nice to meet you or nice to meet you nice to meet you
nice to meet you meet you nice to meet you okay next are you hungry becomes are you hungry or are
you hungry or hungry hungry let's say I'm on the phone with my sister she could say oh do you want
to stop somewhere to eat and I might say I don't know you hungry you hungry okay and another one
um this is like a favorite of a lot of people in the U.S. in particular I don't actually say this
but um someone commented it on one of my fast speech videos before it's the phrase
did you eat yet okay and people say it like did-you-eat-yet right did you eat yet I don't
know hey did-you-eat-yet yeah the next phrase is how does this work how does this work I might say
so how does this work how does this work okay I take off the w in how I say how does this work I
don't understand how does this work how does this work what do you think becomes what do you think
what do you think what do you think what do you think what do you think about that idea I know
what I think what do you think what do you think what do you think what do you think we should do
later what do you think I don't know if you guys have ever heard someone say enough said but that
means enough right enough said enough said about time means about time like it's about time that
that happened yeah about time about time a lot of times when we use the word and to join a couple
words we shorten it to just N like you and me you and me salt and pepper salt and pepper white and
black white and black she and I she and I so pay attention to that also when you're watching movies
listening to songs etc. because the more you can do that the faster you'll be able to speak and the
more natural you'll sound the phrase don't even go there like let's say someone's in a conversation
with me and then they try to bring up something that I'm not okay with and I'm like no don't even
go there don't even go there don't even right so not don't right get rid of that T don't even don't
even try that don't even try that's gross no I wouldn't recommend it don't even try that it will
how about is a reduction for how about like how about we go there later how about we go there
later how about we try it okay the phrase like not that big of a deal it's not that
big of a deal just stop no don't worry about it it's not that big a deal okay it's not that big
of a deal right that's like kind of what it's getting reduced to it's not that big a deal don't
worry about it I'm okay it's okay things are fine it's not that big a deal okay so those are all the
examples I have for you in this video I hope it was helpful and at the very least entertaining
don't forget that in January we're going to do the fluency breakthrough challenge again
we can't wait we hope you join us it's going to be awesome it's 30 days
30 straight days of practicing your English very intensely okay so that you can get your fluency
breakthrough all right that is it you guys and I will see you in another video bye okay um um
English phrases better okay that's a bad explanation let me think of something that
I didn't even know this is my thinking face oh no no um wait okay you know what I can't think
of anything so here's my example hey okay so next one um uh hang on okay so did you know that blah
blah blah blah blah that sounds a little weird hang on did you know about blah blah blah blah
no I didn't even know that let's see I can't do it we can probably cut that out of the video okay
you get it um wait how about we just stop this video no not yet we're not gone
